How Kanafani Sweets tripled repeat visits with a digital stamp card.

A Dubai kunafa institution since 1987 swapped paper punch cards for a Wally Stampcard in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet across its JVC and Mirdif branches. Ten stamps, one free large kunafa, and for the first time a real picture of who its regulars are.

Overview

Kanafani Sweets and Wally, in brief.

Kanafani has been serving Dubai its kunafa since 1987. That kind of longevity creates something most F&B brands only dream of: generational loyalty, with families who queued in the early days now bringing their own children. The problem was that none of that loyalty was measurable. The paper punch card in the customer's wallet knew more about the relationship than the business did.

Kanafani chose a Wally Stampcard because it lives where customers already are: Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. There is no app to download and no form to fill in while the kunafa goes cold. A customer scans a QR code or taps the NFC point at the counter, the card lands in their wallet, and every visit adds a stamp with a single tap from staff.

The programme launched across the JVC and Mirdif branches simultaneously, so a customer stamping in one location sees the same card, the same progress and the same reward in the other. Ten stamps earn a free large kunafa of the customer's choice.

The challenge

What was holding Kanafani Sweets back.

Before
Paper stamp cards were lost, forgotten or left at home, so most never reached the reward.
With Wally
The card is added to the phone once and stays there. It surfaces on the lock screen when the customer is near either branch.
Before
No purchase data, no visit history, no idea who the regulars were.
With Wally
Every stamp is a timestamped, per-branch event. Kanafani sees first-time versus returning customers and redemption rates at a glance.
Before
No way to reach past customers with a promotion without paying for ads.
With Wally
Push notifications go straight to every card in the wallet, so a new flavour or a Ramadan offer reaches regulars for free.
The solution

How the Wally Stampcard works for Kanafani Sweets.

Kanafani Sweets digital stamp card in Apple Wallet showing collected stamps and a free kunafa reward
1
Brand headerKanafani's wordmark and colours, so the card is instantly recognisable next to boarding passes and bank cards.
2
Live stamp gridFilled stamps show a tick, empty ones show the number. The last slot is the gift, so the reward is always visible.
3
Member fieldsName and a masked member ID identify the customer at the counter without exposing personal data.
4
NFC markSignals to staff and customers that the card is tapped, not scanned. Stamping takes under a second.
01

Join in seconds

At JVC or Mirdif, the customer scans the QR code or taps the NFC point at the counter and adds the Kanafani card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

02

Stamp with every visit

Staff tap the customer's phone on the Wally NFC reader. The stamp appears on the card in real time, and the customer sees it land.

03

Fill the card, claim the reward

At ten stamps the card flips to a reward state. The customer redeems a free large kunafa of any flavour, and a fresh card starts automatically.

04

Stay in touch

Kanafani pushes offers and new-flavour announcements to card holders, timed to the days and hours the branches are quietest.

Insights

Why it worked.

Insight 01

Zero-friction onboarding beat every sign-up form

Kanafani never asks for an email or phone number at the counter. The card is added in one scan, which is why adoption stayed high even during the evening rush.

Insight 02

Ten stamps is long enough to build a habit

A high-ticket dessert with a free large kunafa at the end made ten stamps feel earned, not endless. The reward is visible on the card from stamp one.

Insight 03

One card across two branches multiplies visits

Customers who live near JVC and work near Mirdif keep stamping wherever they are. Cross-branch stamping is a big part of the 3x repeat-visit figure.

Insight 04

The lock screen is the new loyalty flyer

Wallet passes surface near the store without any app running. A push offer before a slow afternoon reaches every regular in the area.

With Wally Stampcard, we finally understand our customers. Revenue is up, engagement is through the roof, and our regulars feel truly valued.

Playbook

How to replicate this in your business.

Five decisions from the Kanafani Sweets programme that transfer to any dessert & f&b operator.

  1. 1

Keep joining to one scan. Ask for nothing at the counter; collect data through behaviour, not forms.

  2. 2

Match the stamp count to the ticket size. A generous reward justifies a longer card.

  3. 3

Run one programme across all locations so stamps follow the customer, not the branch.

  4. 4

Use push notifications sparingly and time them to quiet hours.

  5. 5

Read redemptions weekly. The gap between stamps issued and rewards claimed shows where the card needs a nudge.
